June 15th Referendum Absentee Ballots Available

Absentee Ballots for the upcoming Referendum on June 15th are available in the Town Clerk’s Office, Room 313, Town Hall.

Due to the limited time-frame, State Statutes do not allow Absentee Ballots to be mailed, so you have to go get them in person.

The Town Clerk’s office is open
Monday and Wednesday 8:30 – 4:30 p.m,
Tuesday 7:30 – 4:30 and
Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.;
Closed Fridays. (mostly because we need more money for the schools and can't afford to keep the Town Clerk's office running full time these days)

Nice to remind on the Friday closings of Town Offices because of budget cut backs.

The Mayor has been quick to claim a 0% budget for last year but he neglects to mention the INDIRECT TAX from elimination of leaf collection. So the real tax differential was $0-?1000? or more depending on size of property and method of pick up.

They talk of Union give backs, closing a Fire House etc. All cuts seem to come from the Town side of the budget.

The 16,000+ families without kids have been doing more than their share of supporting the 8,000+ families with kids (numbers are from the Town Manager). And, not all of those 8000+ families have kids in the WH school system, right Claire?

BTW Claire, great speach Tuesday night on the greatness of the WHPS system. And people wonder why I'm so cynical.

By your reasoning a budget cut should be considered "an indirect tax". So...if I'm compelled to hire a tutor in lieu of world language in the elementary schools, I'm entitled to complain that I'm being oppressed by an "indirect tax"? Really?

Anyway, I'm surprised you expect the nanny state to take care of your leaves. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and bag your own freaking leaves.

Reread, that was not a complaint. It was a correction of the Mayor's statement (The BOE has said the same as well). The Mayor claimed that they did a 0% budget last year, he did it by transferring expenses to the taxpayer, this is an indirect tax. Any budget cut that has to be made up out of the taxpayers pocket is an indirect tax.

The Town side of the budget is getting cut to ribbons. The BOE does squat with its' budget.

I also did not say I minded the leaf elimination. I stated that those families with no children are taking the hits while the the BOE keeps spending with out any regard for where the money comes from.

Given the state of the economy in the region, the unemployment rate, and foreclosure rate, seniors not getting social security COLAs, it would seem reasonable to ask the BOE to share in the pain.

Now if I were to stoop to your level I would make a rude comment about you and your kid, but I won't.

Well, irony often doesn't translate online. That remark was not directed at you personally; it was an imitation of what might be said by your side if you guys were consistent. I actually look forward to the day when leaf collection is reinstated.

I also think your position that budget cuts amount to indirect taxes is absurd.
