Don't Just Sit There - Vote!

Budget Referendum today in West Hartford.
Polls open 6am to 8pm.

The question to be voted on for this budget referendum asks:

"ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF THE SUBSTITUTE BUDGET ORDINANCE AS ADOPTED ON JUNE 24, 2008?"

YES -- Voting "YES" means you support the substitute budget as adopted on June 24, and want the substitute budget to stand without changes.

NO -- Voting "NO" means you reject the substitute budget (the budget that was substituted after the last budget was defeated on June 24). A NO vote means that further action and reductions to the budget will likely be taken by the Town Council on the budget. Since tax bills have already been sent out, any downward adjustments to the budget will result in a tax credit or tax rebate to the taxpayers of West Hartford.

FACTS about this budget:
Current Town budget is $213.5 million (including Education)
Spending is increased by about 5.5 percent over last year.
The new tax rate, effective July 1,2008 = 37.09 mills
The tax increase represents 6 percent more than last year on the average property tax bill.
